Art and Action

Seen from the sea, there is something almost mythical about the landscape of Lofoten.

Jagged mountains dominate and, enhanced by the special light reflecting from the ocean, the islands look almost impossible, like a drowned fairytale. But as you get closer, the sheer variety of the landscape reveals itself.

Not only the richness to be found in Nature, but also the human landscape of fishing boats in a cloud of gulls, picturesque villages, and fishermen’s cabins perched on stilts at the water’s edge. These elements have attracted artists to the islands for well over 100 years, including painters from the Golden Age of North Norwegian painting in the late 19th century.

Galleri Lofotens Hus and Lofoten Opplevelser’s take you on an Art and Action tour through the world of these artists and the nature of the islands that inspired them.

The multimedia show, The Magic Island Kingdom, introduces you to the islands as it follows the turning of the seasons in Lofoten – the changes in the land, the light, the birds, the sea, and the people. The stunning images are complemented by a soundtrack of specially selected music and the voices of Nature.

After the show, you will have a chance to enjoy the country’s largest collection of North Norwegian art before donning survival suits and boarding our large, modern sea rafts for the safari.

All our guests will be supplied with a windproof rescue suit before we leave the harbor. We depart from Henningsvær, the trip lasts approximately two hours and we will make several stops to hear tales from the passed along our journey.
